Why Loose Leaf?
You can see the freshness.
Teabags can hide old, stale herbs.
Loose leaf teas aren’t crushed or pulverized like they are in teabags.
The contents of teabags are literally “bottom of the barrel”, the dust from broken tea leaves.
Finely crushed tea leaves and herbs, have lost much of their flavor and aroma. They do, however, release more tannins and bitter flavors than loose leaf teas.
The nutrients and active biochemical contained in tea leaves, herbs, and spices are maintained for much longer.
Loose leaf teas require less packaging. You’re paying for tea, not packaging. This means fewer things that end up in a landfill.
Why Herbal Teas Matters
A variety by themselves, herbal teas are completely different from the other varieties of tea. More correctly known as tisane, herbal teas are simply fresh herbs whose medicinal properties have largely been released in hot water through the processes of infusion or decoction.
Herbal tea benefits are derived from the different phytochemicals and compounds within the herbs that have shown beneficial effects on the body. These substances are typically found in the leaves, stems, roots, bark and fruits of plants. As such, herbs and herbal teas have long been used to prevent and treat many ailments.
Infusion - This process is used for herbs whose beneficial essences are easily dissolved in water or oil. The herbs are placed in newly-boiled water then allowed to steep for about 5 to 10 minutes. This is usually used to extract from leaves, stems and flowers.
After infusion, the medicinal properties of the herbs then seep into the water thus giving the drinkers the desired effect, which could be laxative, diuretic, nutritive, stimulant, astringent, sedative or antacid in nature.
